Coordinating the online activities of volunteers dispersed all over the country, and who usually don’t know each other, is no easy task. Having close to no budget doesn’t make it any easier. But automation can go a long way, and with the use of geolocation and Google maps, some psychology principles, and a lot of hard work, our grassroot website grew to become the official reference for volunteers for our candidate, leaving the official one in the dust.
I conceived the idea and did all of the programming, while a little group of friends did wonders helping with the day to day running of the program. A very laborious effort, but full of satisfactions – even if our candidate didn’t win.
